Gadag is the fast emerging hub for the power sector with a 4555 MW wind power project and 700 MW gas-based unit. With a land bank of 3200 acres and a proposed steel zone; Gadag is on the fast track to development. Gadag has a good focus on the agriculture sector, mainly growing pulses and oilseeds. Horticulture crops in the region include a wide variety of fruits. Medicinal and aromatic plants like amla, ashwagandha, citronella and lemongrass are also grown in Gadag. The MSME cluster in power loom, textile training college and a large talent pool of skilled workers forms a perfect ecosystem for the textile sector here. Other focus sectors include sugar industries, machine tools, furniture and paper products.

Infrastructure & Resources

Gadag has access to the Malaprabha river flowing in the adjoining district. Barring north and northwestern part of the district which is irrigated by canals, Gadag largely depends on groundwater resources for irrigation.

Transmission to the district is done by Hubbali (Hubli) Electricity Supply Company Limited (HESCOM). However, power generation is handled by various organizations like NTPC, KPCL and alternate sources like windmills in Gadag.

Natural Resources

The district has natural resources like quartz, iron ore, sand, clay and stone.

Human Resources

The education network is filled with varied disciplines to aid all-round development. Some of the key institutes are Gadag Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS), S. A. Manvi Law College, Rajiv Gandhi Ayurvedic Medical College and RTE Society’s Rural Engineering College.

Bengaluru and Goa international airports along with two domestic airports provide excellent connectivity to the district. It has good rail connectivity across many broad-gauge rail links with new proposed railway lines adding more accessibility. NH63 and NH 218 pass through the district, and Karwar and Mangaluru provide good access by sea routes.
