Mysuru

The cultural capital of Karnataka, Mysuru is also an emerging IT hub with the second-largest software exports in the state. The City of Palaces retains its old-world charm and continues to be ranked number one among tourist locations in the country. Mysuru is the fourth-best tourist city in the world. The district also cultivates crops like sugarcane, cotton and tobacco. Karnataka State Warehouse Corporation APMCs and cold storage facilities for milk and ice cream are also present in the district. A proposed textile park with artisan clusters and silk clusters is set to drive the world-famous Mysore Silk manufacturing.

Land

The district has a total land area of 6,307 sq. km with 7.88% of forest cover. It has 24.37% uncultivated land along with 25.87% remaining land. Land Bank Availability: 813.5 acres

Water

Mysuru comes under the Cauvery basin. However, the basin is drained mainly by rivers Cauvery, Kabini, Laxmana Tirtha, Harangi and their tributaries.

Power

Power transmission to the district is being done by Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Company Limited (CESCOM).

Natural Resources

Natural resources include quartz, magnesite, graphite, limestone, and dolomite.

Human Resources

Some of the prominent institutions in the district are University of Mysore, The Chamarajendra Technical Institute, National Institute of Engineering, Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering (SJCE), Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), Defense Food Research Laboratory (DFRL), All India Institute of Speech and Hearing and the Central Institute of Plastic Engineering and Technology (CIPET).

Connectivity

Mysuru has its very own domestic airport, and the Bengaluru International Airport is 145 km away, providing high accessibility to the district. Three broad gauge railway lines and highways NH 212, SH17 and SH33 provide excellent connectivity to the district. Mangaluru seaport and airport are accessible from the district.
