Tumakuru (Tumkur) with its land banks of 9800 acres is on the fast track to development. Niche and specific infrastructure implementation across sectors like food, textile and small industries are on the rise providing ample investment opportunities. It is famous for the cultivation of hybrids in paddy, and the region also grows flowers like aster, crossandra, jasmine, and chrysanthemum. There is a dedicated flower market at Badavanahalli. Rice mills, coir industries and oil extraction mills are the other major agro-based industries in the region. The district has a thrust on textiles with a proposed textile park in the pipeline.
