Udupi is set to redefine business in a temple town. A haven for financial sectors, and the birthplace of four major public sector banks, Udupi is also home to high-security printing of share certificates and cheque books. Banking leaders like Vijaya Bank, Canara Bank, Corporation Bank and Syndicate Bank are present in the district. It has the highest density of banking branch offices in the state (Scheduled Commercial Banks). Udupi is also the largest grower of cashew nuts and exporter of jasmine flowers. The district offers expertise in the food processing sector. Apart from cashew nut, paddy and pulses like black gram, horse gram, green gram, cowpeas and groundnut are also grown here. Udupi has a keen eye on sectors like Information Technology, Engineering and Shipbuilding. These sectors have set precedence with renowned companies like Suzlon Infrastructure Ltd., Synefra Infrastructures Pvt. Ltd., Robosoft Technologies and Tebma Shipyards Limited operating here.

Land
The district has a total land area of 356,446 ha with 23.91% under cultivation and 24.52% of forest cover. It has 35.84% of uncultivated land along with 15.73% remaining land. Land Bank Availability: 67 acres
Water
There are 289 tanks, 25,592 wells and 699 tube wells in the district irrigating 33,547 hectares of land.
Power
Power transmission in the district is done by Mangaluru (Mangalore) Electricity Supply Company Limited (MESCOM). However, power is generated at an imported coal-based thermal power project in the district with the capacity 2 X 600 MW (1200 MW).
Natural Resources
The district has natural deposits of silica sand, bauxite, lime shell, building stone and clay.

Manipal University in the district is an international education hub excelling in the fields of medicine, engineering and management. The district also has other important institutions such as Canara College of Nursing and Vaikunta Baliga College of Law.
Connectivity
Bengaluru (Bangalore) International Airport and five other domestic airports ensure high accessibility for trade and commerce. A broad gauge rail route of 100 km with six railway stations and three national highways NH 66, NH 17 and NH13, provide access to Bengaluru, Goa, Chennai Hyderabad, Mumbai and Pune. Mangaluru, Karwar and Goa also provide port access.
