Mandya

Famous for the very first hydroelectric project in India, Mandya has a rich legacy of prominent personalities overlooking its growth and progress. The oldest sugar factory on its soil has won Mandya the designation of a food processing and sugar zone by the Government of Karnataka. The district ranks third in sericulture across the state with 40, 000 sericulturists working to add a technology edge to sericulture. Mandya also grows spices like coriander, ginger and turmeric as well as a wide variety of flowers. Additionally, the handloom cluster is well established here and the ecosystem is strengthened by the presence of textile majors like Welspun, Gokaldas, Shahi Exports among others.
