Beluru, a small heritage town in Hassan district is known for its heritage and ancient temples from the Hoysala dynasty. Hoysalas are famous for their magnificent architecture and exquisite craftsmanship. Located on the banks of River Yagachi, Beluru was one of the capitals of the Hoysala Empire.

The town Beluru is well-known for its Chennakeshava Temple which is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Built in the 14th century, the temple is the finest example of Dravidian culture and Hoysala architecture. The intricate carvings on the exterior and interior walls of the temple depicting the stories from mythology and epics will leave you spellbound. The main gate of the temple has a huge Gopuram (Main gate with many tiers) beautifully carved sculptures, animals, and birds. The interior walls of the temple are so well-crafted with images of dancers, animals, birds, stories, and narrations from mythology leaving you in awe. Visit the Chennakeshava Temple for its craftsmanship to perfection, architecture, heritage essence, and the fact that the deity is still worshipped every day. The temple is on the pending list of UNESCO Heritage sites. The temple is open every day from 7.30 am to 7.30 pm.
