Bidar

Known as the pulse bowl of Karnataka, Bidar is situated right atop the state geography and is perhaps one of the few districts to witness a phenomenal growth curve in investments since 2011. 60% of its cultivation is dedicated to sugarcane, jawar, bajra, pulses, ginger, sunflower and soybean. Bidar is the next hot spot for agro and food processing with its immense agricultural potential. Bidar’s contribution amounts to 3% of the state's agricultural sector.

Infrastructure & Resources

Land

Bidar has its land and soil well utilized with varied cropping. The soil is suited for the cultivation of pulses and is acknowledged by people for the excellent quality produce. The district has a forest cover of 2.56%. Land Bank Area: 178.82

Water

Bidar district falls under the Godavari basin that extends over 4411 sq km and Krishna basin that covers 585 sq km. However, it also has three rivers Manjara, Mullamiri and Chulkinala that aid irrigation. Bidar has an irrigated area of 16% of the net area sown.

Power

Kalaburagi (Gulbarga) Electricity Supply Company Ltd. (GESCOM) is handling the power transmission to the district of Bidar. Power generation is handled by the varied organizations like NTPC, KPCL, and other sources including RTPS, solar power of 15 MW and 18MW generated by sugar industries. The average consumption in the district is 900 MU per annum, but the average demand stands at 180 MW.

Natural Resources

Bidar has natural resources that include bauxite, kaolin, red ochre, laterite stone, building stone and quartz.

Human Resources

Bidar has noteworthy higher educational institutions including a University of Veterinary Sciences and Horticulture Studies. Skilled resources, especially for the agricultural sector, are provided by these institutions.

Connectivity

Proximity to three domestic airports supports the district’s connectivity. Bidar already has a helipad and a domestic airport at Kalaburgi (Gulbarga). The Hyderabad International Airport is a mere 134 km away from Bidar. Two national highways connect its road network for high accessibility on ground. NH9 connects Bidar to Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andra Pradesh. NH13 connects it to Vijayapura (Bijapur) – Maharashtra and Karnataka. The closest seaports are located in Goa and Mumbai.
