The southernmost district of Karnataka, Chamarajanagar is blessed with rich natural reserves of both metallic and non-metallic minerals, especially the high-value quality of black granite. Agriculture is the backbone of the economy with 1.85 lakh hectares under cultivation. The major food crops are paddy, maize, ragi, jowar, groundnut, and pulses. The industrial potential is well established, creating and integrating value chain for agricultural produce like banana, coconut, chilli, turmeric and onion. A proposed food park by the Government of Karnataka including cold chains and processing facilities aims to tap this potential.

Land
Chamarajanagar has nearly 48.36% of its land as forest cover. However, 32.50% of the rest of the land is utilized for food grain cultivation, mainly cereals, pulses and oilseeds taking up 40.02%, 33.20%, and 9.60% of land respectively. The region has uncultivated land of 6.16%. Different types of soils and climatic conditions aid a variety of cultivation, including sericulture. Land Bank Area: 779.26 acres
Water
The main river of the state Cauvery flows in the district. Minor rivers originate from watersheds and fill in the reservoirs and tanks here providing an excellent steady supply of water to this region.
Power
Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Company Ltd does the power transmission to the district. Domestic power consumption in the district is 352.94 MU, and industry consumption is 58.79 MU.

The Government Tool Room & Training Centre and several polytechnic institutions in the region provide skilled manpower.
Connectivity
The district has access to six airports - Bengaluru International Airport, Cochin International Airport, Chennai International Airport as well as Mysuru, Hubballi and Mangaluru airports. Two National highways NH209 and NH 212 go through the district and a 20 km rail route with three railway stations connects the region to all major cities across India. Tuticorn, Karwar, Mangaluru (Mangalore), Mumbai and Goa provide seaport connectivity to the region.
